Project History
The idea for the catalogue of the George Clarke Print Collection originated with James Campbell (Fellow Librarian) and Joanna Parker (Librarian) in 1995. The project was undertaken under the Non-Formula Funding of Specialised Research Collections in the Humanities initiative, funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England. Beth Crutch of Oxford University Computing Services and Timothy Clayton set up the catalogue using an Access database, and the catalogue was compiled by Timothy Clayton and Ben Thomas between 1995 and 1999. Sophie Clarke of the Humanities Computing Development Team (http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/hcdt/) designed the web site and developed the web interface to the catalogue. This allows an enquirer to carry out a range of simple searches on the names of engravers and designers, the subject matter of the print, and the date of publication, and more advanced searches on technique, publication details, and combined date and place of publication. |
