The English possest it till 1662 when they. Sold it to the French King who has made it one of the Best and Strongest Fortifications of Europe M: Skynner ft. 1712. Sold by C. Browne at the North door of the Royal Exchange London. Notes Advertised in the Daily Courant 1 August 1712: ‘Two Plans of Dunkirk; one as it now is, the other as it was in 1700...by C. Browne Print & Mapseller at the Globe at the West End of St. Pauls, and at his Shop at the North Gate of the Royal Exchange’. A plan of Dunkirk by Skynner was advertised in the London Gazette in 1697 (Tyacke, p. 72)
